About Write to Top

What is Write to the Top’s Mission?

The Write to the Top Mission: To help a community of both native and non-native English users build effective English writing skills to apply to all areas of their lives, including in academic, business, and personal contexts.

Where did the name Write to the Top come from?

Those who aim for the highest position quickly want to get ‘right to the top’ (of their class, their industry and career, and so on). To do this, they will have to work hard and acquire the best tools. Our aim is to help you reach the top tiers through better writing, hence Write to the Top.

Is this site appropriate for beginners?

No. This site targets intermediate to advanced students, as well as native English users. Beginners in English should continue to build basic grammar & vocabulary skills in an ESL setting, as these tools are crucial to good writing. Of course, it certainly helps to watch our videos and try hard.

How often do you release new content?

We upload YouTube videos twice a week. Subscribe to the channel to get notifications of new posts and see the schedule on the homepage for posting dates and topics. Blog posts and other materials do not have a set schedule, but will be updated regularly. Check the website often to see what’s new.

How can I contact Adam?

If your questions have not been answered in this FAQ, you may contact Adam here. If your question is answered on this page, you will not receive a reply. Please do not send specific questions about vocabulary, grammar, and so on; post these questions on the YouTube channel under the latest video.

General

I have a grammar/vocabulary/writing/test question. Where can I post it?

You can post English-related questions in the comments under the latest YouTube video post, or on the writetotop Instagram channel. Adam reads all comments and will do his best to address your questions.

I need to pass my IELTS/TOEFL very soon. What should I do?

Begin by watching Adam’s videos on YouTube. Then, work on building your vocabulary, reviewing your grammar, reading every day, and taking as many practice tests as you can. The key is to practice every day. There are no secrets or shortcuts to success on these exams.

If you have not prepared already for the test, there is not a lot you can do “very soon.” Get some practice tests so you can at least get an idea of what to expect.

I can’t watch YouTube in my country.

Unfortunately, there is little we can do to help you with this situation. You can try using VPN software to mask your identity, but you do this at your own risk and to the best of your ability.

What happened to Engvid?

Adam still makes videos for Engvid.com. Those videos are for general English, while Write to the Top focuses on English writing skills.

How can I improve my English?

Build your vocabulary base, read every day, study grammar with a good book, practice, practice, practice. And, yes, watch videos on Youtube.

Can you make videos about the CAE, CELPIP, PET, TOEIC, GRE, etc.?

There are many English tests available out there. IELTS and TOEFL are the most popular of these. In order to help the greatest number of people, we can only focus on these two tests. However, our main focus is fundamental writing skills for various contexts.

Can you make a video about _________?

Our videos follow a set course of carefully chosen topics that aim to help you write better. While we do read your requests and suggestions, we cannot fulfil all of these requests. We will do our best to focus on questions that can benefit many people.

How much does the IELTS cost?

For all administrative details about the IELTS or TOEFL, please visit their official pages:

What’s the difference between the Grammar Course (GC) and the Grammar Course with Lab (GCL)

GCL members receive additional benefits, including early access to videos, weekly exercises & quizzes, a monthly livestream to ask questions, as well as other benefits. See our membership page for more details.

Can I cancel my membership?

Yes, you can cancel your membership whenever you want. Please note that memberships are administered by Google LLC. You will need to read and follow their refund policies and proceed accordingly. Write to the Top has no control over the refund policy for YouTube memberships.

Can I ask Adam questions about the course materials?

Members of the GCL can ask up to 3 questions per month. This ensures everyone has an opportunity to ask questions. It also reduces repetition of questions. GC members can view the Q&A postings.

There will also be a monthly live stream where Adam will answer pre-submitted questions from GCL members and take comments. GC members can access a recording of this live stream a few days later.

How can I practice what I learn?

GC members can access a review quiz once per week, while GCL members will receive the quiz, review notes, exercises, and the opportunity to ask questions directly to Adam.

Does the course come with a course book?

Yes and no. There is no book at the beginning of the course, but there will be one by the end of it.

In fact, you will be a part of the creation of the course book that future learners will use. Your contributions and questions will help shape the book, and your weekly review notes will ultimately become the book.
