Commonly Misspelled Words

Writing in English is hard enough without having to worry about spelling. To improve your use of vocabulary, we have compiled a list of words that are frequently misspelled. Practice spelling these words, especially if you have to take an English language exam, such as the IELTS or TOEFL.

Words like entrepreneur, weird, and gauge are everyday words. However, misspelling them conveys to the reader that you might not be a native speaker. If you are a native speaker, then misspelling words can indicate a general level of education or the fact that you were to careless or apathetic to use a spellchecker. Either way, this may affect the reader’s opinion of the writer, and usually not in a positive way.

Have this list available and be especially conscious of words that you tend to misspell. Practice writing these out. At any rate, use a spellchecker whenever possible.
