One of the things you need to do to prepare for the IELTS and/or TOEFL test is to practice a few skills that will greatly help you achieve a higher score. The main skills needed for these tests are paraphrasing, skimming and scanning, and note taking.
While note taking is more focused on the TOEFL’s Listening section, all three are invaluable in terms of enhancing your listening and reading skills and may be applied in many areas beyond the test. This is especially true if you are planning to pursue university or college education, where you will have to attend lectures and take notes, as well as do a lot of reading and writing.
The strategies presented here should help you in all sections of these tests. Keep in mind that you will need to practice these skills, just as you do with any skill you learn.
